Jump in

Today I did something I haven't done for about 25 years -- take a little boy to swimming lessons. Kelli had an allergic reaction over the weekend to a medication she was on, (not a fun thing on one's birthday!) and even though the rash on her legs isn't contagious, she felt it was noticeable enough that she didn't want to scare the other moms and swim instructors. Today was Nicholas' first swim lesson day and it was pretty easy -- the kids and parents just waded in and played on the structures as the kids were comfortable, getting used to the water. Nicholas likes water so that wasn't a problem, but it was a little cool and when he once tried to walk in thigh-deep water and fell down, that cool water up to his neck surprised him a little bit. He was hesitant to try walking in it after that. He did like sitting on my lap (I was sitting on the bottom of the pool in about 15 inches of water) and splashing with hands and legs. So Jump In for the day's blog title is a bit ambitious. The downside to swimming lessons was that I had to be seen in a swimsuit in public, but since Kelli decided to make lunch for all of us because I had done the swimming thing, and because Nicholas had a pretty good time there, it was worth it. I just hope she's kind when posting any of the pictures she took of us in the water!
