Unfortunately I didn't have my camera along, and even if I did, one can't just stop on a major city street to shoot photographs of grazing deer, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Today in broad daylight, pretty much right at noon, as I was driving on Pioneer Way from Safeway toward DQ I saw three adult deer grazing in the grassy area between the Hearthstone Retirement Inn and the new apartments they have build just off Division Street. I think at least one of them had antlers ... I had to keep my eyes on the road a little bit! We knew there were reports of deer living in the city limits, but that is practically downtown! There is a little wetland there with trees and this open area, so I suppose that is where they hang out; they seemed quite at home in spite of the hour and the traffic. Their home has been cut at least in half by those new apartments tho.
Which is not quite as dramatic as what someone found dozing in their back yard the other day in George, WA, not all that far from here -- a full sized cougar! Read the story here. Fun job for the cops, I'm sure. And while I'm talking about livestock being where nobody expects them to be, there was a terrible accident last night on I-90 over by the WA-Idaho border when several cars hit a moose. Pretty tragic. Spokane gets several moose stories each year, usually jumping people's backyard fences. So far no moose in Moses Lake, but cougars have been rumored to be near Ephrata, just 12 miles north.
The weather around here has been on again, off again, as you who were here this past weekend for Rachel and Jason's wedding know. In fact, I see my April 14 post (a month ago today) was of falling snow...
I held my breath for rain, and then for wind, but Friday was a gorgeous day with very little wind, and Saturday was just as good, I think. As crazy with details as I had become over this wedding, things came together just fine on Saturday, really. It was a small wedding but a nice one, and people have called it a "relaxing" day. The lake does that, I think. And so, for Crystal (our photographer friend from the South America trip and probably the only person who reads his blog who wasn't at the wedding in person), here are a couple of pictures of the day. Likely I will post more as soon as Shane gets his all sorted out. These were from a set taken by our nephew.
