Frogs and Crickets

Well, spring took it's time getting here, and now we seem to have gone straight to summer.
A bit of a shock to the system! Some farmers planted their corn a month ago and it just sat in the ground; we were concerned for a few fields the neighbors had, that it might have rotted in the ground, but it came up, as did the stuff Ben planted not that long ago. The ground warmed up and out it all popped. Makes for hot pigs and warm farmers too.

I mowed the grass the other day and have begun to water it (it was getting crusty) and the darn stuff has popped out of it too. I swear I could see it grow yesterday. In the morning it looked pretty freshly mown; by afternoon (and definitely by this morning) it was beginning to look shaggy again -- and dandelions! How do they grow so fast?? Time to find the sprayer too . . .

I was going to try to be a good girl and keep the air conditioner off, since we are supposed to be back below 80 in just a few more days, but I changed my mind tonight when it was nearly 80 inside the house. So I thought I'd run it overnight when the rates might be lower and the demand would be too. Only (in classic form), it is not coming on. The other day I ran the fan only, and that worked. Now when I want to run fan and a/c the light comes on like it wants to work but no fan... so I am hoping it is an easy fix. I will wait to fix it until the temps drop back down -- I am sure the repair folks are busy this week with others who have discovered their air conditioner is not working after the winter off.

And so the windows are open tonight, hoping for a light breeze to blow the cooler air through the house. With the open windows I can hear lots of crickets and frogs tonight. It would be a nice night to sleep out on the trampoline for a little while -- listen to the chorus and watch the stars. There might not even be any mosquitoes yet!

  1. Be careful... we have mosquitoes already! I've had the windows open on both sides of the apt all day today... and the slider is still open right now, even tho it's 10:17 at night lol. It's still really nice outside. I think my windows will be staying open all night, but unlike you, I don't have a/c at all... no one does over here. But we definitely skipped spring!
